Integrated Kinetic Neurology Approach

Integrated Kinetic Neurology maakt gebruik van recente inzichten uit de neuroscience om het zenuwstelsel te ‘mobiliseren’ en te stimuleren op meerdere niveaus zodat er 'Multisensory Integration' ontstaat met als gevolg snelle verandering in pijn, functie en prestaties! 

De vier pijlers van IKN:
1. Omgevingoptimalisatie
2. Sensorische stimulatie, connectie en integratie
3. Beweging die veiligheid creëert   
4. Stress weerbaarheid

IKN werd geboren uit het feit dat er geen uniforme aanpak of techniek is die werkt voor iedereen. Als die er was, zou niemand lijden aan pijn of stress-gerelateerde aandoeningen of problemen hebben die invloed hebben op sportieve prestaties. Elke modaliteit heeft zijn sterke punten, maar ook zijn nadelen. IKN geeft je de tools die inspelen op verschillende niveaus van het zenuwstelsel en andere orgaansystemen om een situatie te creëren die positieve veranderingen geeft in pijn, functie en prestaties!

Het is belangrijk op te merken dat dit niet een ‘standalone’ benadering is! De meest efficiënte manier om onze patiënten te helpen is om zoveel mogelijk niveaus van het zenuwstelsel en het lichaam te integreren waardoor het gemakkelijker wordt om positieve verandering te verkrijgen.
Ons primaire doel is om ons zenuwstelsel van zoveel mogelijk nauwkeurige informatie te voorzien en verbetering te creëren van de verwerking van deze input. Bovendien kunnen we door het creëren van een volledig geïntegreerde ‘state’ van de zintuiglijke systemen een optimale output krijgen zodat er verbetering is van:

4.Kracht en power

We hebben deze aanpak ontwikkeld zodat iedereen met weinig kennis van neurologie de technieken onmiddellijk kan leren. Het mooie van dit systeem is dat het ook gemakkelijk kan worden geïntegreerd met jouw huidige therapie waardoor er diepere niveaus van het brein en het lichaam worden bereikt met betrekking tot de klachten van de patiënt. 

Een reductionistische visie van het lichaam vertraagt dit proces. We moeten onze aanpak laten evolueren tot één die rekening houdt met de functie van het lichaam als geheel en de andere orgaansystemen in tegenstelling tot alleen bekijken van gesegmenteerde lichaamsdelen.

The goal of IKN is to promote resourcefulness throughout our entire system through hands-on reflex stimulation, sensory-based integration drills, physical movement that creates safety, neurological balance and psychological reconditioning to enhance our ability to adapt and respond to threat as we move forward in our lives.

What you are going to learn:

  • Hands-on neuro-stim drills to create the best environment before touching the area of pain
  • Visual and vestibular system influence on the musculoskeletal conditions. It’s not all about proprioception. Integrate!
  • Neurolymphatic reflex stimulation
  • Neuro-balancing movements
  • Neuro-signatures and neuro-tags involvement
  • Neuro-layering techniques to achieve better results with hands-on techniques
  • How the tongue impacts different functions, breathing and the stomatognathic system

We will teach you how to create the most optimal environment to facilitate positive change at the beginning of your sessions or classes which can result in remarkable changes in pain and performance. Then, we will move onto a full assessment of all the sensory systems in the body and discuss their influence over our entire body and how disturbances can cause issues in many areas.

You will get many neurological stimulation drills to integrate these systems and combine them with your current approach, as well as learning neuro-balance drills to create safety within the brain and body. Integrating these components together can result in incredible changes for our clients, but most importantly, empower them with the ability to reproduce the effects at home to achieve long lasting change. This is the key that allows our clients to continue to adapt to their environment and remain resilient to stressors they may have in the future.  

  • We don’t see with our eyes, hear with our ears, smell with our body. We do all these things with our brain.
  • Techniques to harness neurology that improve results don’t have to be complicated or time consuming
  • We are designed to move away from threat and safety. Unless you live in a bubble, it is impossible to escape threat.
  • The brain does not like bilateral movement.
  • Our brain is constantly responding and adapting to multiple inputs at any given time and so one single input is probably not enough to create a long term change.

Day 1: 
9-10:30am Introduction/theory
• Neurology 101
• Environmental effects on neurology
• Why some patients take longer to get better and what you can do to help
• Neurology of pain and stress

10:30-10:45am --Break 

10:45-1:30pm (Practical breakout for each section) 
• Applied neurology assessment/neural organization
• Reflex stimulation and sequencing for pain relief and performance enhancement
• Pain neuromatrix & neurotag reconditioning 
• How past injuries, surgical scars, trauma impacts your neurology
• How to address past injuries from an applied neurology perspective
• How to instruct your clients to self-perform drills for carryover 

2:30pm-5pm (practical breakout for each section) 
• Review of assessments, hands-on stimulation sequence, case examples
• Neuro-balancing movements for pain relief and movement efficiency
• Pain relief strategies using movement, manual therapy, and neurological stimulation
• Quick assessments/high pay off movements/drills to use with your clients 

Day 2: 
• Review of Day 1/questions/clarification
• 10am-1:30pm (Practical breakout for each section)
• Neurological influence of the sensory systems on pain, stress, and performance
• Sensory examination through an IKN perspective (Extended and quick assessments for clinic)
• Treatment for sensory disconnection for pain reduction and performance enhancement 

• Input integration strategies with techniques from Day 1
• Multiple examples of combining drills and sequences for different presentations
• Rehabilitation of sensory systems with many drills and examples
• Designing home exercises programs for clients
• Quick and easy ways get to ultimate buy-in from clients
• Techniques to create lasting change in your clients 

• Kinetic Flow demonstration and homuncular refreshment exercises

We advise to travel by train from Schiphol airport to Hilversum and get a taxi from the trainstation Hilversum to Klaaskampen 19C. Total cost would be around: (1 way) € 10,00 for the train from Schiphol to Hilversum and approximately € 22,50 for the taxi from train station Hilversum to our location (all prices are estimated prices)

Dr. Ryan Foley earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy and Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences,Psychology, and Gerontology from Nazareth College of Rochester, New York. After his 6 years in New York, he moved to Miami to work at a sports performance center, delivering treatment professional athletes from teams such as the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos and also the U.S.A Olympic Sailing team. It was here where he learned advanced treatment techniques to improve pain and sports performance. After his spell in Miami, Ryan moved to back to Manhattan, NY to begin working at a sports medicine & amp; rehabilitation Institute, specializing in helping individuals with pain and performance issues. Out of dissatisfaction with the conventional approach to helping people resolve pain and injuries, he moved back to Ireland and began studying applied functional neurology methods, specifically Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex, along with other applied neuroscience approaches to help get people get out of pain and improve function. He now owns his own private practice Evolve Physiotherapy
