1 day course Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS):
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), is a non-invasive, painless brain stimulation treatment that uses direct electrical currents to stimulate specific parts of the brain. The placement of electrodes on the head that stimulate affected areas in a very simple and comfortable way for the patient with no side effects! TDCS is a neuromodulation technique that produces immediate and lasting changes in brain function due to neuroplasticity. 

Studies show very promising therapeutic effects in the treatment of:

  • chronic (musculoskeletal) pain
  • neuromotor disorders
  • fibromyalgia
  • migraine headache
  • sleep disorder
  • Brain damage
  • Depression

 

2 day course Percutaneous Neuromodulation Therapy:
PNT is an innovative, new and minimally invasive treatment for musculoskeletal pain in which electrical stimulation is delivered through a small needle in the peripheral nervous system. This can be highly effective for the treatment of:

  • Pain
  • Improving motor control
  • Range of motion

  • Low back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Elbow and wrist pain
  • Knee pain
  • Lower limb pain
  • Tendinopathies
  • Muscle activation
  • Chronic pain.

In the field of Physiotherapy, ultrasound-guided Percutaneous Neuromodulation is defined as the application through a needle with ultrasound guidance of an electrical current at low or medium frequency, seeking a sensitive and / or motor response of a peripheral nerve in some point of its trajectory, or of a muscle in a motor point, with a therapeutic objective. PNT is always done under Ultra Sound guidance to assure maximum safety for the patient as well optimal needle positioning. 

With PNT we create changes in plasticity in the somatosensory- and motor system.

  • Saphenous nerve
  • Sciatic nerve
  • Tibial nerve
  • Common peroneal nerve
  • Axillary nerve
  • Median nerve
  • Ulnar nerve
  • Radial nerve

This innovative low direct current technique allows the combination with different techniques such as the therapeutic exercise or manual therapy so the professional can boost the effects of such therapies. Evidence is proven by more than 6000 studies all over the world.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), is a non-invasive, painless brain stimulation treatment that uses direct electrical currents to stimulate specific parts of the brain. A constant, low intensity current is passed through two electrodes placed over the head which modulates neuronal activity. A fixed current between 1 and 2 mA is typically applied. tDCS works by applying a positive (anodal) or negative (cathodal) current via electrodes to an area.

tDCS is a neuromodulation technique that produces immediate and lasting changes in brain function. The position of the anode and cathode electrodes on the head is used to set how current flows to specific brain regions. The current delivered by tDCS is NOT strong enough to trigger an action potential in a neuron; instead its “sub-threshold” changes the pattern of already activity neurons. The current applied has an INHIBITORY OR EXCITATORY EFFECT on the cortical activity of the brain depending on its intensity, duration and/or polarity. 

In this sense, a MODIFICATION OF MEMBRANE POTENTIAL is produced, which stimulates or inhibits the transmission of information. In this way, neuronal levels of excitability and activity can be specifically modified. 

In our courses we guide you through the underlying neurofysiological principals of tDCS, the protocols and placements of the electrodes and practice and discuss the application

This technique is proven (multiple international studies) to be highly effective for chronic pain and neuromuscular disorders. During the course we’ll see explain the working mechanisms of PNT the specific pathology indicated protocols and we do a lot of demonstration & practice sessions to learn and apply PNT in a safe an effective way.

We will guide you through the function as well the Ultra Sound scanning technique of each relevant nerve of the above mentioned pathologies. At the end of this two day basic course, every student will have to pass a practical test and will be asked to explain why and when he or she should applicate PNT or chose alternative treatment possibilities.

I have a degree in Medicine and Surgery, awarded by the University of Buenos Aires in 2009, approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports of Spain in 2012.

Specialist in Neurology, I did my medical residency in Neurology at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, Argentina, between 2010 and 2014.

I completed my Ph.D. in Medical-Surgical Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid, between 2015 and 2019 (Thesis: "PET amyloid in Multiple Sclerosis" qualified with an outstanding Cum-laude).

Between 2014 and 2015 I completed the Master's Degree in Neuroscience at the Complutense University of Madrid.

I am a university expert in statistics applied to health sciences by the National University of Distance Education (UNED, 2016-2017).

I obtained a certification in the Cognitive-Behavioral Pathology and Dementia technique by the Spanish Society of Neurology in 2019.

I am currently author or co-author of 30 articles in scientific journals, 2 book chapters, presented more than 50 communications to national and international congresses.

I serve as an external reviewer for the journals BMC Neurology, Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, PeerJ - The Journal of Life and Environmental Sciences, Neurology, Frontiers Human Neuroscience, Journal of Medical Virology, and Frontiers in Neurology. 

I am currently contracted as a researcher at the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos since 2016.

Since 2016 within my responsibilities I perform a minimum of 10 hours per week of general neurology and dementia consultations, and I have training in the use, application, and interpretation of various neuroimaging, neurophysiological and neurobiological techniques used for the assessment of neurological patients.

I have extensive experience in cognitive assessment of patients with neurological diseases using different neuropsychological instruments, structural and functional neuroimaging analysis, and in the use of direct electrical stimulation and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation using neuronavigation.
